Education

As academic hospitalists, faculty of the Hospital Medicine Section play important educational roles in addition to their clinical roles. Each general medicine teaching service has at least one hospitalist at a time. The faculty of the Section of Hospital Medicine cover 50% of the general medicine teaching service, serve as core faculty and compose three of the five Associate Program Directors for the CUIMC Internal Medicine Residency Training Program. Section faculty also contribute to the educational mission of the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons through their work as course directors in three clinical clerkships, as appointed deans, as advisors to medical students, and through direct clinical teaching of medical students throughout their four years of training. Our faculty teach in many key areas, such as quality improvement, patient safety, leadership, clinical informatics, physical diagnosis, medical decision making, and evidence-based medicine.

Our objective is to excel as educators by mastering and teaching principles of evidence-based medicine to students, residents, colleagues, and patients and to become agents of change in quality improvement, patient safety, and clinical research initiatives.
