Dr. Angell received her medical degree from the University of California San Francisco and completed residency at Brigham Women's Hospital. She is a former Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar. She has a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene from the London School, and a Master’s in Public Health from the University of Michigan. She is currently Deputy Commissioner at the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene overseeing the Division of Prevention and Primary Care. This division implements solutions to reduce individual and systemic barriers to equitable population health through the advancement of chronic disease prevention strategies and with a focus on primary care information technologies and clinical quality improvements. Approaches emphasize the integration of traditional public health and clinical care systems. Previously she was Senior Advisor for Global Noncommunicable Diseases at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and directed the Cardiovascular Disease Program at the NYC Health Department.
