Administration

We are pleased to welcome Jean Economos to the Department of Medicine. Jean is the new Divisional Administrator for the Division of General Medicine. In this role, Jean will serve as the administrative and financial link between the Division of General Medicine and the Department of Medicine. The Division of General Medicine includes approximately 80 full-time faculty, with 12 R01-funded principal investigators, and 40 administrative and research staff. This important role facilitates collaborative relationships between the Division and other divisions and centers within the Department of Medicine, as well as departments at Columbia.

Jean comes to us from Mount Sinai School of Medicine, where she served a dual role as an Administrative Director for the Department of Public Health and Senior Grants Manager for the Office of Research Services. In that role, she oversaw a diverse portfolio that includes pre- and post-award grant administration, academic program finances, and departmental operations. In addition to this role, she simultaneously served as Senior Grants Manager in the Office of Research Services, supporting the $12M/year Clinical Translational Science Award (CTSA) and providing training and guidance to faculty, students, and research staff across the Mount Sinai Health System. Most recently, she helped establish Mt. Sinai’s own Department of Public Health, where she subsequently served as the first Administrative Director for this new department.  

Jean looks forward to contributing to the Department of Medicine by building efficient systems, supporting faculty and staff in the division, and fostering a collaborative environment where everyone can thrive.
