NHLBI-SI Awards Precision Medicine Epidemiology Center to Columbia University

October 27, 2026

The Precision Medicine Epidemiology Center (PMEC), based at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, supports the NHLBI-SI Initiative's research programs and individual SI projects that use detailed measurements of health and biology to better understand heart, lung, blood, and sleep (HLBS) conditions. The PMEC provides program management and scientific expertise on how data from human participants are gathered, combined, and prepared for use. Its work centers on building new cohorts (groups of people followed over time for health research) and harmonizing data from existing studies so they can be analyzed together and made ready for SI. The PMEC is committed to collaborative team science, working closely with the NHLBI-SI Initiative's Data Science Center, Precision Medicine Informatics Center, and the NHLBI BioData Catalyst cloud ecosystem, as well as with the investigators and communities behind each cohort. Above all, the PMEC aims to honor the generosity of the many participants whose long-standing commitment to research makes this work possible and ensure that their contributions are used responsibly to advance discovery and, ultimately, more precise care for heart, lung, blood, and sleep health conditions.
